Stationery Stores in Shanghai

Shanghai is honestly a playground if you love stationery… every store feels like its own little world.

(Weekend visits by appointment only)

Paper Message Shanghai

A must-visit. They recently opened in Shanghai and have a lot of Shanghai-exclusive items you won’t find anywhere else. I literally cannot walk out without buying something. You can even make your own personalized notebook here, which is so fun.

Yogurcraft

If you love stamps and washi, this place is dangerous. They also carry small handcrafted items like keychains and pottery from Japan. So many amazing Japanese stamp artists in one space.

Also… they have a really cute cat in the shop 🐱

Super Paper Sonic

This place feels like a paper museum. So many different kinds of handmade paper… textures, patterns, colors… it honestly blew my mind just looking around.

Paper D

They carry fountain pens, organizers, and lifestyle items, so the categories feel more complete compared to most shops. One of the highlights is that they stock Traveler's Company, which is always a win.

(By appointment only)

Le Petit Ilot

This is another must visit if you’re in Shanghai. The space is beautifully set up, and they carry so many tapes and stamps. I spent a full hour here without realizing it.
They mainly stock Taiwanese and Malaysian brands, with a small selection of Japanese goods.
My only regret… my camera battery died 😭 I didn’t get enough photos of how pretty this place is.

Moon Moon Home

More budget-friendly and student-oriented, but still full of charm.
They focus on independent artists, and a lot of the items are super unique. The kind of things you probably won’t find outside of China.
If you’re hunting for something different, this is the place.

Naxiaoxiao

Mainly Korean stationery, especially lots of Loops. Very curated.

Travel Tips for China 🇨🇳

A few things that will make your trip way smoother:

  1. Maps
Google Maps doesn’t work reliably in China. Download Baidu Maps or Amap (Gaode) instead. They’re much more accurate for navigation, public transport, and real-time locations.
  2. Payments
Cash and credit cards aren’t commonly used anymore. Most places use mobile payments. Set up Alipay (or WeChat Pay) before your trip so you’re not stuck when it’s time to pay.
  3. Internet Access
Apps like Instagram, Google, and YouTube are blocked. If you want to use them, you’ll need a VPN installed before you arrive.
  4. Search & Apps
Google isn’t used in China. People rely more on local apps like Xiaohongshu (RED) or AI tools for searching, reviews, and recommendations.

Save this before your trip, your future self will thank you ✈️
